Don't have false hope, ms. manette. This man may not always be there for you. I had a man once. One that I know now is still alive, but that is beside the point. We were at our betrothal breakfast, when the guards rushed in and took him away from all of us under false claims. He was taken to the Chateau d'If, never to be seen again. He was thought for dead, but then he escaped after fourteen years, to become the Count of Monte Cristo. He still would not tell me who he was or what he was here for. People change. That's all I can tell you. Never trust anyone.

I have confirmed that your worst premonitions are a reality. Charles Darnay traveled to France to save Gabelle (rich noble), but unfortunately was captured and sent to La Force prison. Reasoning? You must be mad. The revolution has not the time nor the patience to reason with nobility. How dare you put your petty relationships in the way of this force. The only way to improve all our lives is through revolution. Charles Darnay must suffer for his crimes, the crimes of his family, and the crimes of the nobility. I will not rest until all the sick imbeciles of his kind are eliminated. They are the problem with this country, the reason we are starving. The rich and the powerful will suffer for what they deserve, and rightly so. Charles will suffer, and so will Lucie if she decides to hinder the revolution. So will anyone standing in between the people and freedom.
